About the Role:

Everest Asia continues its rapid expansion in terms of geographic and product scale and scope. We are excited to offer this opportunity for a Head of Marine, Asia to take our broad Marine capabilities and deep capacity to the Asian markets from our Singapore base. As we look to execute on an exciting growth trajectory in Asia, the Head of Marine will play a critical role in setting our Marine strategy and building the capabilities and market presence.

The role will suit an individual who has gained experience in one or several of the Marine sub-classes, including Cargo, Hull and Liabilities. Our Marine offering will also include Terrorism and Fine Art & Specie. We do not expect the candidates to master all sub-classes and they will be supported by the full Everest International Marine network and leadership.

This is an important role within the Asia leadership team as we continue to underwrite opportunity and offer market leading responsiveness and a solution focused mindset to our clients and broking partners.

Role Purpose:

  • Responsibility for the profitable development and growth of the Marine portfolio.

  • Set and execute strategic direction across Asia with a focus on the management of risk whilst driving business growth and achieving profit objectives.

  • Driving transformational change and strategic focus by maximising business value through portfolio optimisation, operational efficiency and risk selection.

  • Leading, coaching and developing a Marine team, creating a work environment that fosters teamwork, innovation and cooperation.

  • Finding ways to leverage technology within the Underwriting process to improve efficiency.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Accountability for the strategic direction, oversight and performance of the Asia Marine Portfolio.

  • Responsible for successful execution of the Marine plan; adjusting strategies and actions to meet the needs of a changing marketplace; effectively preserve and enhance profitability through product development and enhancement; pricing discipline, competitive analysis and the development of business-enhancing performance metrics and controls.

  • Formulating guidelines and executing underwriting strategy.

  • Overall responsibility for the Asia Marine P&L and delivery of all key metrics.

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of business, including underwriting & pricing, wording development, broker and client relationships and ensuring that all business is serviced effectively.

  • Primary point for all peer reviews for the department.

  • Business development and execution of yearly business and budget planning.

  • Provide insurance solutions & broader risk management support to clients most complex risks and challenges.

  • Developing a business and marketing plan, building brand and product awareness through broker market.

  • Expanding and enhancing the current product range to allow Everest to compete with the market leaders in the sector.

Professional Experience and Skills

  • Marine expert with extensive Underwriting experience in the Asian marketplaces.

  • Demonstrated ability to generate profitable new business and proven record of delivering meaningful underwriting profit.

  • Credible leader with proven people management, team building and leadership skills.

  • Highly collaborative and able to work effectively with peers.

  • Strong technical background, problem solving analytical skills, and ability to connect data analytics with strategic deliverables to drive underwriting strategy.

  • Strong network of producer and industry contacts.
