John Howard served as Chief Executive Officer of Truist Insurance Holdings (TIH), where he held various leadership positions over the course of twenty years with the company and its affiliates, including Truist Financial Corporation (formerly BB&T Corporation), Crump Group, Inc. and Bisys Group, Inc.
He led the successful $16 billion leveraged buyout of TIH from Truist Financial Corporation before stepping down as CEO on January 1, 2025. Mr. Howard remains Vice Chair of the TIH Board of Managers.
John’s three-decade financial services career also includes executive leadership positions with renowned organizations including Prudential Financial, GE, and Conseco, Inc. Upon completing active duty in the U.S. Navy, he began his career with Alex Brown & Sons Inc. and Ernst & Young LLP.
John also brings experience serving such industry associations as the Insurance Policy Committee of the Federal Reserve System Board of Governors, the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, The Institutes, and the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science at St. John’s University.
John holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Columbia University and a Master of Business Administration from Duke University, Fuqua School of Business.
